The 158s Saxton Atlas only shows the parishes: 'Huntstown Wood' lies between 'St Giles' (St Giles on the Heath) and 'Browodwiger' (Broadwood Widger).
This pre-1816 map of Holsworthy shows the villages and large field boundaries.
The hamlet of 'Emsworthy' is marked meaning that, what will become 'Huntstown Wood' is in the area of the last few letters of 'Emsworthy'.
At the time of the tithe map (below) many of the fields had been left to become heathland. The road between Emsworthy and Cross Green does not exist.
The 1842 Tithe Map for the parish of Broadwoodwidger shows 'Huntstown Wood' as a field, numbered 426 on the map.
All the land to the north is 'heathland' and the track was used to access the heath.
According to the 1844 'Tithe Aportionment' document field number 426 belonged to Richard Palmer of Emsworthy and was called 'Inner Moor'; the same name applied to other fields nearby! The field was 'arable' so used to grow crops.
The 1884 OS Map shows, what will become 'Huntstown Wood' as a rough pasture field - field number 745. Much of the heath has now been enclosed with the track being used to access the fields beyond.
NB: Neither the ponds to the north west or Higher Huntstown Farm (field number 743) exist at this time and much of the heath has been enclosed.
The 1906 OS Map shows, what will become 'Huntstown Wood' as a cultivated field - field number 745 - with an area of 6.044 acres.
The ground to the north west, which will become a pond, is now shown as being rough, uncultivated, ground. Still no sign of Higher Huntstown Farm.
The 1919 OS Map shows Huntsdown (not Huntstown!) and the track leading to the down.
No fields are marked but the stream forming the northern boundary of 'Huntstown Wood' is shown.
The 2003 Original Planting Plan Map shows how 'Huntstown Wood' should have been planted. The letters 'OG' stand for 'open ground' and 'NB' for 'new planting'.
The ground to the north west, which will become the pond, is marked 'Sc' with the eventual line of the boundary already indicated.
The 2004 Google Earth map shows, what will become 'Huntstown Wood', the year after being planted.
Already there is the indication that the original planting plan has not been followed.
The 2012 satellite image shows how the wood in growing with some features beginning to disappear.
The original planting plan was not followed with only the ride from the south west corner to the eastern boundary being visible.
The 2016 Google Earth map shows 'Huntstown Wood' after thirteen years growth.
The ride from the south east corner to the eastern boundary can be determined but it has not been kept clear.
The July 2018 'Purchase Map' was drawn up following explorations of the wood prior to purchase.
This map differs from the 2016 Google map which does not show the extent of the open ground to the north west and south: the ride can be identified in the Google map.
The August 2018 working map was drawn up and used to plan and carry out the initial work on 'Huntstown wood'.

The November 2018 working map was drawn up and is the one currently used to plan and carry out the work on 'Huntstown wood'.
The changes shows an extra compartment, the rides in slightly different positions and the revised boundary layout.
